Understanding University Grading in India
SGPA vs. CGPA
SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) measures your academic performance for a single semester. It is calculated by dividing the total credit points earned in the semester by the total credits registered for that semester.
CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) reflects your overall academic performance across all completed semesters. It acts as the weighted average of all your SGPAs. Most companies have a strict CGPA cutoff (often 7.0 or 7.5) for campus placements.
Internal vs. External Marks
Indian universities heavily rely on a dual evaluation system. Internal Marks cover continuous assessments, like cycle tests, assignments, and attendance, while External Marks come from the final end-semester exam.
