Understanding SGPA Calculation
The SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) is a measurement of your academic performance for a specific semester. Unlike a simple average, it is a weighted average where each subject's importance is determined by its credit value.
Most universities in India, including Anna University, VTU, and others, use this system to provide a balanced overview of a student's performance. A 4-credit mathematics course usually impacts your GPA more than a 2-credit laboratory course.
How to Calculate GPA Manually
- Multiply the Grade Point earned by the Credits of the subject.
- Repeat this for all subjects in the semester.
- Sum all these products (Total Grade Points).
- Divide by the Total Credits of all subjects.
GPA vs. Percentage
While many institutions use GPA, some recruiters or higher educational bodies may ask for your percentage. A common conversion used in India (like the AICTE formula) is:
Note: This formula may vary slightly depending on your specific university guidelines.
